Biography
Michael Charles Smith (born August 1961) is an American business executive and a Republican politician from Orgon.
Early life, education, career
Michael Charles Smith was born in August 1961 in Champaign, Illinois.
He attended Catholic grade school in Champaign, Illinois, and later, in Philo, Illinois. He then attended the University of Illinois in the years 1979-1982 before joining the Air Force in 1985. After serving as an electronic warfare specialist at Mountain Home Idaho, he attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.
After graduating from the Russian linguist program with honors, Smith and his wife Kathleen, spent two years in Germany. After a little more than seven years in the service, they returned to Illinois in 1993, where Smith worked for Norfolk Southern Railway and the US Postal Service.
In 1996, the family relocated to Corvallis, Oregon, where Smith began working for Hewlett-Packard. While working full-time, he completed an accounting degree from Oregon State University, graduating in 1999. He then attended Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and earned his MBA in 2000.
In February 2006, while living in Oregon, Smith declared his Intent of Candidacy for the 2008 American Presidential Election, for the Republican Party. An archive of his campaign website is available here.

Smith is married to his wife Kathleen. The family resides in Corvallis, Oregon.
